On the atoxopyrimidine action of B6 group-vitamins.

In mice and rats fed a certain synthetic diet, an injection of 2-methyl-6amino-5-hydroxymethyl pyrimidine, the pyrimidine moiety of thiamine, causes paroxysms of convulsion accompanied with violent movements so peculiar as to be expressed as "running around as a ball". These attacks occur repeat edly at certain intervals and cause the death of the test, animal in most cases. We called this pyrimidine "toxopyrimidine" and the factor which protects the animal from this paroxysm, "atoxopyrimidine" (1). In the present paper an evidence will be presented indicating that B6 group-vitamins have a strong atoxopyrimidine action.
